Jon Kreft Ruled Eligible for Florida State

Jon KreftJon Kreft will finally play his first game for Florida State, six years after the center verbally committed to the Seminoles.

The 7-foot center and former five-star recruit has been ruled eligible, the school announced in a release Wednesday.

What a long, strange trip it's been, indeed.

Kreft originally pledged to attend Florida State in August 2004 before his career was derailed by a drug charge. In May, 2006, as a high school senior, Kreft and a friend were pulled over by police, who found 15 grams of marijuana and a digital scale in the car. Kreft also admitted to hiding 1.7 grams of cocaine between his buttocks.

Kreft served one year for the drug charge and Florida State rescinded its scholarship offer.

Following the completion of his sentence, Kreft attended Chipola Community College for two seasons before transferring to Florida State in January of this year.

He was ruled eligible Wednesday, and according to the school's release, is expected to play tonight as the Seminoles host Stetson.
