Anderson Silva is already at the top of the MMA world. He tops the Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound list, is on a 15-fight win streak, and even danced on stage with Justin Bieber. He is waiting to see if the UFC will give him Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, or the winner of this weekend's bout between Mark Munoz and Chris Leben next. What more could he do? Try driving a car really, really fast with no fear of getting a ticket.
Silva will be the pace car driver at the Kobalt Tools 500 in Phoenix on Nov. 13. Yahoo! Sports' own NASCAR blogger Jay Busbee said that Silva will lead the field around the track before peeling off to let the rest of the field doits thing. Pace cars rarely go any faster than 55 mph, and he's driving a Toyota Venza, a car that NASCAR circles view as a soccer mom's ride.
Darn. Silva won't be breaking any land speed records in Phoenix.

It's unlikely that any of Silva's fight skills will come in handy at the races. Unfortunately, front kicks to the face and triangle chokes aren't part of car racing. Though drivers do get testy with each other and sometimes even throw punches, a spinning backfist probably won't help in the infield.
The closest parallels come in the way fighters and drivers celebrate. Carl Edwards, the points leader, does a backflip off of his car when he wins, much like Jose Aldo and Eddie Alvarez. Indianapolis 500 winners douse themselves in milk. "King Mo" Lawal did the same with a Rockstar Energy drink.
