Want a NASCAR chassis? An old COT wing? Here?s your chance

Want a NASCAR chassis? An old COT wing? Here?s your chance

Ever dreamed of having a NASCAR show car to call your own? Or wondered if you could have a COT wing after they were replaced by the spoilers that are on the current cars?

Well, if you've got some spare cash lying around, you're in luck. Richard Childress Racing is auctioning off some equipment and parts on December 6. (We hear that driveshafts make great Christmas presents.)

Some of the items up for bid include the car chassis , an old Clint Bowyer or Casey Mears era Jack Daniel's show car without the drive train, random car parts and even a copier and an ice maker. RCR is downsizing from four Sprint Cup teams to three after the departure of Bowyer to Michael Waltrip Racing.

If you want some of the stuff, you can sign up at the auction site. We're thinking that this may be a great time to finally go through with our threats to start our own NASCAR team. There seem to be plenty of qualified drivers available.

(If you participate in the online auction or head on over in person, drop us a line. We'd love to see the gas can you purchase.)

Bizarre bounce leads to Division III guard?s memorable dunk

One of the craziest bounces of the college basketball season paved the way for perhaps the year's most unusual dunk.

Five minutes into Saturday's game between Division III Heidelberg University and Trine University, Heidelberg's Victor Fortkamp botched his attempt at a one-handed follow slam of a teammate's missed runner. The force of Fortkamp's missed dunk sent the ball maybe 25 feet in the air directly above the rim, enabling 6-foot-5 forward Nate Davis to time his leap for a soaring two-handed slam of his own.

The bizarre dunk landed Heidelberg a spot on SportsCenter's Top 10 on Saturday night, an unlikely feat for 1,600-student Ohio school that isn't even a Division III basketball power. Heidelberg finished the 2010-11 season with a 12-15 record and is off to an uninspiring 2-6 start this year.

It should come as no surprise to anyone at Heidelberg that it was Davis who delivered the YouTube-worthy highlight. The Dayton native is also a jumper and a sprinter on the school's track and field team.

Previous Dunk of the Year nominees:

UConn guard Jeremy Lamb

San Diego State guard Jamaal Franklin

VMI forward Stan Okoye

Washington's Terrence Ross

Marquette's Vander Blue

Oregon State guard Jared Cunningham

Video: Zach Johnson ends his third round with perfection

As the third round was coming to an end at the Chevron World Challenge, it looked like Tiger Woods was going to be leading by default. He hadn't played especially well all day, but nobody else was making much of a charge, and the closest to him was Zach Johnson, who had bogeyed the 16th and 17th hole.

But standing 161 yards out on 18, Johnson decided on a soft 7-iron, and, it appears he pulled the right club.

That eagle was the second of Johnson's back nine, and gave him a one shot advantage over Tiger heading into the final round. I guess that's a pretty decent way to end your round?

Andrei Arshavin conducts greatest Q&A ever, part XXVII

The latest installment of Andrei Arshavin's ongoing interactions with the readers of his official website is just, well, it's wonderful. So let's just get right to it.

1. From Fifka777
Andrey, after Cesc left the team, do you keep your personal contact with him?
AA
: A few days ago Cesc came to our training ground; we had an opportunity to communicate with each other.

So...did you? That kind of makes it sounds like Andrei just gave him the finger and ran away.

3. From Nikneimus
Hi Andrey. My name is Sergey, I'm forty-four, I live in Uzbekistan (Bukhara). We watch football and support Russia ? we worry, we pray, we rejoice! Russia goes to the Euro 2012. Guys, you all deserve a lot of credit, you all did your best and achieved the result. We are all happy for you! Congratulation. We watched the draw, it seems like you have pretty good chances. We would like to invite you to visit our old city of Bukhara which is 3 000 years old. Our city is a tourist attraction and we have a very well-developed tourism industry.
We have unique architecture and, well, of course, pyramids ? there are things here worth looking at! There are a couple of decent hotels here and a lot of little ones .People are warm, hospitable and the city is quiet, calm (unlike
the Caucasus, there are no terrorists here). A lot of vegetables and eastern sweetmeats. Come with the whole team, their families, relatives and friends. Ask your tour operators a tour to Bukhara, people from all over the world come here. The silk road - Khiva, Samarkand, the palace of the emir of Buhara built by ancient masters in the form of a scorpion and the highest in Central Asia minaret tower of death, all these great things are here. The burial tomb of Tymur the
conqueror is in Samarkand. There are also some interesting places in Khiva. Best regards,
c********@
ya.ru 03.12.2011
AA
: I've long wanted to visit Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

And how could you not? Sweetmeats, Andrei! Sweetmeats!

4. From Ramon95
Andrey, top of the day,
I want to tell you that you're a great guy and a good player. Tell me who can you point out in the national teams of our rivals at the Euro 2012: Poland, Greece and the Czech Republic?
AA:
The Poles have Lewandowski, Piszczek and two goalkeepers from Arsenal, the Czech Republic -Rosicky, Greece - their experienced captain.

Yes, Greece's captain is so experienced that he doesn't even need to be referred to by name (it's Giorgos Karagounis, by the way) or any other significant identifiers. Just "experienced captain" -- which, to be fair, is definitely better than saying "that guy with the hair."

5. From lizaveta99
What's going on, Andrey, why don't you answer my questions? :) Who picks them up for you, your admin? : D
AA
: Were there many questions?

Even when Andrey answers your questions, he doesn't answer your questions, lizaveta99. Life just isn't fair.

6. From Queen
What do you think has to be changed in the world for it to become better?
AA
: Money abolished.

Succinct, topical and anarchistic. Probably not what the Queen wanted to hear, though.

7. From Queen
What does your intuition tell you right now, Andrey? :)
AA
: At the moment I do not talk to it.

...why not? Did it insult you? Say something about your family? Maybe it disagreed that money should be abolished? How does one get in a fight with their intuition anyway? Why are my ears bleeding?

8. From Queen
Andrey, complete the phrase: "At some point in my life, I'll surely ...
AA
: I don't even know what to say?

OK. I figured it out. "Queen" is actually Andrei's intuition.

9. From Roni2000
Hi Andrey! The question is: Is it true that in your childhood and adolescence you lived
on Favorskogo str.14 - 1 (near the school ?111)?? It's just that I live in this house and want to know if it's true or not.
AA:
No, I never did.

Is someone in Russia going around selling houses by telling potential buyers that "Andrei Arshavin lived here"? This could be a far-reaching and very lucrative scam.

11. From Blaise
Andrey, do you remember your classroom teacher Svetlana Vyacheslavovna Sosnina? Well, now she's our classroom teacher and often talks about all the football players. Regards from our class =)
AA:
She was not our classroom teacher. It was Natalia Semenovna who was in charge of our class ? the math teacher. And Svetlana Vyacheslavovna taught literature and Russian.

Who is spreading these lies about Andrey's childhood?!!?

12. From Queen
Andryusha, looking back what do you see there? ;)
AA
: My behind

That's Andrei's way of telling Queen/his intuition to stop asking questions already.

13. From Queen
If you were a bird, where would you fly? :)
AA:
Into space.

Of course.

14. From nelli15012001
Hello Andrey, My name is Nelli. My friend Roma and I are your huge
fans! We had a bet ? I said your favorite type of car is BMW, and he says that it is Mercedes. Who is right?
AA:
Mercedes

What kind of degenerate gamblers bet on that sort of thing? Have you ever once turned to your friend and said, "Hey, I'll bet you a dinner that Leo Messi likes Gap Kids more than Armani Exchange."? (He does, but that's besides the point.)

15. From Phantom
Do you continue to communicate with Eboue after he moved to Turkey. I've
heard recently that during the game against Besiktas, people threw bottles and coins at him...
AA:
I've heard this story. After he left us, he just once came to the Arsenal training ground. My wife is on good terms with his wife. She is invited to Artem's birthday.

But Emmanuel is not! I see a trend developing here. It seems Andrei is only willing to talk to former teammates when they come and visit him at training.

17. From Queen
Andrey, hi! I'm watching "Disco of the 90-s" which is held in St. Petersburg,
and therefore I have a question for you. What kind of memories do you have from the 90-s? Do you remember anything in particular? Regina;)
AA:
Back then I thought more about football and studying so I didn't know that I lived through some horrible years for my country. I didn't know that people might have just gotten killed on their way home. It was everywhere around. What do I remember?
I guess there were groups of people near every metro entrance with one goal ?to mug and to beat. They acted according to a plan. A little thug came over and began getting in your face, of course, you sent him to hell, and then there jumped up a group of his thug-friends from around the corner:) Your feet in such situations were your best friends :)

So Andrei spent the '90s killing thugs and running away from their friends. That sounds about right. More unsettling than Russia in the '90s? The fact that this was Queen's sixth question already.

18. From serg2009
Hi, Andrey Sergeyevich! This is Belokurov. How are you doing? Haven't talked to you for quite a while?
AA
: Oh,.hi. How are you! :)

Well, if you came to Arsenal's training ground, Andrei would be much more willing to communicate with you, Belokurov.

23. From Moonray
Andrey, many celebrities voice over cartoon characters. Would you like to voice over some cartoon character? For example, from the well-known Soviet cartoons? Who would you prefer? Looking forward to your response.
AA
: I never thought about it. If this proposal comes, I would consider it.

YES PLEASE

24. From Xander
Hi, Andrey !!!!! During the friendly match Greece - Russia there was
a small skirmish after a foul on Anyukov. It's very interesting why you pushed
Katsouranis away! It's just that usually in such situations you are the one who calm everybody down... Apparently at that moment he really got the better of you! Answer
if it's not a secret! P.S. Good luck in every game!!!!!
AA
: He, like all Greeks and Italians, loves to wag their arms.
Perhaps they have such a mentality. So I told him - you can talk with
words, but don't wag your arms here.

That's right. If you go wagging your arms around Andrei, he will send you to hell like those metro station thugs in the '90s. And then he'll run away from all your fellow Greeks. And Italians.

Homeward bound: Gus Malzahn takes a pay cut for a promotion? at Arkansas State?

Homeward bound: Gus Malzahn takes a pay cut for a promotion? at Arkansas State?Well, here's something I didn't expect to be writing today: Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is about to take a 30 percent pay cut to become the head coach at Arkansas State. Batten down the hatches, everybody.

Are NCAA hawks about to swarm on Auburn? Did the Tigers' predictable post-Cam Newton plunge ruin Malzahn's reputation as an offensive mastermind? Did his crazy wife scare off more attractive suitors? Are real estate prices in and around Jonesboro, Ark., the steal of the century? Why is he taking this job?

I don't know. With Malzahn's reputation, he could conceivably top the wish list at any one of at least five current vacancies ?and most of the dozen head-coaching jobs that have already been filled over the last month ? all of which could afford to improve on his $1.2 million salary at Auburn, the highest in the nation for an offensive coordinator. Last year, he was reportedly on the verge of agreeing to a $3 million deal at Vanderbilt before things fell apart. Earlier this year he was reportedly a leading candidate for the North Carolina job, which eventually went to Southern Miss' Larry Fedora for $1.7 million.

According to al.com, Malzahn is expected to make "around $850,000" at his new job, which is digging really deep for Arkansas State as it is: His predecessor, Hugh Freeze, was the lowest-paid head coach in Division I this year with total pay amounting to a little over $200,000. They're quadrupling that number for Malzahn, and it's still less than half what he could have earned at the other jobs he's been connected to. Hell, Freeze is now making a base salary of $1.5 million at his new job, Ole Miss, and the vast majority of Rebel fans would have leapt to hire Malzahn instead.

There's only one thing Arkansas State has going for it: It's home. Malzahn grew up in Arkansas, went to college in Arkansas, and built his career in the Arkansas prep ranks, where he literally wrote the book on the hurry-up, no-huddle philosophy that he deployed to prolific effect at Shiloh Christian and Springdale high schools. His first college job was at Arkansas, where he followed four senior stars ? including his five-star quarterback, Mitch Mustain ? from Springdale's state championship team in 2006.

When that experiment went bust, he joined up with one of his old high school rivals, Todd Graham, as Graham's offensive coordinator at Tulsa, where his attacks led the nation in total offense in 2007 and finished second in 2008, despite a pair of pedestrian quarterbacks whose names no one will ever remember outside of the record books. (Paul Smith and David Johnson, for the record.) With long-striding, Heisman-winning freak Cam Newton at the controls last year, Malzahn's second offense at Auburn averaged 42 points per game en route to a BCS championship, and his ascension to a top job seemed inevitable. Given the massive attrition from the championship team, this year's tumble to the depths of the SEC rankings ? the first time in six years his attack has finished outside of the top 30 nationally in total offense ?hasn't damaged his standing in the rumor mills. (Not nearly as much as that leaked video of Kristi Malzahn Uncensored, anyway.)

So: Gus Malzahn is going home to take over a Sun Belt squad that just turned in its first winning season since 1995, and Auburn is going to be replacing coordinators on both sides of the ball following defensive coordinator Ted Roof's departure to Central Florida. They don't call it the silly season for nothing.

UFC 140?s Three Stars: Jon Jones, Chan Sung Jung and Frank Mir

UFC 140?s Three Stars: Jon Jones, Chan Sung Jung and Frank Mir

UFC 140 marked the UFC's second trip to Toronto this year, and like UFC 129, it's another candidate for card of the year. The pay-per-view card alone would have earned that designation, but the preliminary fights had plenty of exciting moments from Igor Pokrajac, John Cholish and Jake Hecht.

Who stood tallest among giants? Here are Cagewriter's picks. Tell us yours in the comments or on Facebook.

No. 1 star -- Jon Jones: Did that first round make you doubt? Seeing Jones confused on how to handle Machida's movement early in the fight made his win even more exciting. That was the first time Machida has ever been submitted in 20 fights. Jones' tally for the year: three submissions, one TKO, one belt won, two title defenses, and a well-earned vacation.

No. 2 star -- Chan Sung Jung: "The Korean Zombie" was the most unpopular man at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday night. He took advantage of Mark Hominick's aggressiveness from the bell, and knocked him right out. That earned him the UFC record* for fastest knockout, but also angered the fans who had gathered to watch hometown hero Hominick. He quickly calmed them by finding the right words to say in English, a language he doesn't speak. "I love Canadians!"

No. 3 star -- Frank Mir: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira had Mir in trouble early in the bout, but Mir stayed calm and took advantage of his position. He rolled into a Kimura that MMA fans -- and Big Nog -- won't soon forget.

*Jung is now tied with Todd Duffee for a seven-second KO. Duane Ludwig is trying to get the time of his knockout of Jonathan Goulet amended by the Nevada Athletic Commission to earn him the record.

PGA Tour?s Shots of the Year, #1: Bill Haas at East Lake

Not much doubt about the shot of the year this year: Bill Haas' astonishing from-the-water save at East Lake Golf Club to win not only the Tour Championship, but the FedEx Cup and its associated $10 million prize. This is snatching victory from the damp clutches of defeat on an epic scale. Not often you see a single shot change an entire life, but here's one case of exactly that. Well done, sir.

Towson is one loss away from going a full year without a win

The last time Towson won a game, Osama Bin Laden was still alive, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger were still happily married and Foster the People's "Pumped up Kicks" hadn't yet gotten regular radio airplay.

Towson's losing streak stretched to 30 games and 358 days on Tuesday night with a 81-62 home loss against Manhattan. The Tigers (0-11) will go a full calendar year without a win if they don't beat Vermont at home Friday night and they'll go all of 2011 without celebrating a victory if they also cannot upset Virginia in Charlottesville on Dec. 30.

It has been 15 years since Towson last had a winning season, but this losing streak has been particularly dismal.

Nineteen of Towson's 30 losses have come by 10 or more points, including 10 of 11 losses this season. The closest the Tigers have come to winning during that stretch was a 95-93 overtime loss to UNC Wilmington in which they somehow squandered a 22-point lead in the final 14 minutes of regulation.

Towson's struggles this season are no surprise considering new coach Pat Skerry had to essentially rebuild the roster this offseason.

Leading scorer Isaiah Philmore transferred to Xavier shortly after former coach Pat Kennedy was fired. Braxton Dupree left to play professionally in Israel. And the indefinite suspension of leading returning scorer RaShawn Polk before the season left Skerry with just one player who played for Towson last season: redshirt sophomore forward Erique Gumbs, who averaged a mere 3.6 points.

The best player on this year's team is senior Robert Nwankwo, but Skerry's recruiting prowess offers hope for the future.

Six-foot-7 junior college transfer Marcus Damas has averaged 12.3 points and 6.4 rebounds this season and 6-foot-5 true freshman Deon Jones has chipped in 8.2 points and 4.6 rebounds, though he's also turning the ball over at an alarming clip. And for next year, Skerry has assembled a strong class headlined by highly touted shooting guard Frank Mason then-eligible transfers Jerrelle Benimon (Georgetown) and Mike Burwell (South Florida).

Having some of those guys available this year would help immensely as the Tigers try to break their losing streak. Unfortunately, they'll have to be patient and hope that 2012 brings better times.

(Thanks, College Basketball Nation)

Colorado State interrupts BCS programming to claim Alabama?s offensive coordinator as its new head coach

Colorado State interrupts BCS programming to claim Alabama?s offensive coordinator as its new head coachWith usual barrage of coaching turnover dominating the headlines this winter, how does a relatively obscure welterweight like Colorado State guarantee some attention for its new hire? Well, poaching the chief play-caller for one of the heavyweights vying for the national championship is a good start: The Rams are expected to introduce Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain Tuesday as their new boss, simultaneously injecting a dose of optimism into a stagnant program and at temporarily throwing the Crimson Tide's prep for the BCS title game into a state of flux.

Of course, now as ever, Alabama's dominance begins on defense. But McElwain's offense has never been a mere cloud-of-dust complement: In four years, his system has produced eight draft picks, four first-rounders, six consensus All-Americans, two Heisman Trophy finalists and one Heisman winner. The Crimson Tide have averaged at least 32 points on more than 400 yards per game three years in a row ? the most prolific stretch in school history ?and just matched the 2010 attack for yards and points this year despite losing three first-round picks and the starting quarterback. At 220 yards per game rushing and 214 passing, it was arguably the most balanced offense in the country.

Which brings us to the million-dollar question: Will McElwain stick around long enough to organize the game plan and call the plays against LSU? And does it matter if he doesn't?

In the BCS era, we've seen assistant coaches go both ways, with? let's say inconclusive results. In 1998, outgoing Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe handed over the offense to quarterbacks coach Randy Sanders on his way to Ole Miss, and Sanders delivered with a championship-clinching plan against Florida State in his first game as a play-caller. Two years later, Florida State offensive coordinator Mark Richt stayed on to call the 2001 Orange Bowl before taking over at Georgia, only to lead the No. 1 offense in the nation into a shutout against Oklahoma. (The Seminoles' only points in a 13-2 loss came via safety by the defense.) In 2007, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini decided to soak up the opportunity before shipping out for Nebraska, staying on to revel in a beatdown of Ohio State.

Based on extremely limited precedent, then, McElwain's decision could be no big deal, or could be one of the key factors that swings the pendulum in a game most books are currently listing as a pick 'em. Fortunately, we know Alabama fans aren't the type to obsess about this sort of thing at all.

Injured Darren Bent is sorry he shopped during Villa loss

Injured Darren Bent is sorry he shopped during Villa lossWhile Aston Villa were losing 2-0 to Liverpool on Sunday, a Twitter user spotted Darren Bent, who had been ruled out of the match due to injury, shopping in Cambridge. Villa fans did not like this (even though Bent was injured and just sitting at home anyway) and directed their scolding disapproval in the direction of Bent's account.

Later in the day, presumably once his Christmas shopping was finished, Bent tweeted his apology:

Nothing is more important to me than playing football, sadly injury meant I wasn't able to do that today. Gutted not to be involved......

I hope to be back very soon. Watched the majority of he game on tv. Never knew popping out would cause an issue and for that I apologise KTF

To some people this is a non-issue overblown by frustrated fans and to others it's proof that Bent doesn't care about this team. But whether he was home watching every second of the game on TV, out shopping or wearing a Balotelli costume and giving wedgies to school bullies in the Philippines, he still would've had exactly the same impact on the match: none.

If this is a major issue, it won't be long before injured footballers are tied down to seats inside the stadium on match days, fitted with catheters so they don't miss a second of the game for bathroom breaks and put in headgear to hold their eyelids open like in A Clockwork Orange. Because if fans have to watch their team lose, so do they.

Matt Kalil is the first Trojan out for the ?12 Draft. Now: Who?s going with him?

buffett.jpgIt's not the decision everyone is waiting for out of USC, but it may be just as big: Left tackle Matt Kalil is the first Trojan to announce that he's skipping his senior season for the NFL, telling the Los Angeles Times that he wants to take advantage of "a special opportunity" to leave as a likely top-five pick in next April's draft.

With that, a legitimate national contender in 2012 loses a former five-star recruit who made good with 26 consecutive starts and nods on four major All-America teams this season as the anchor of a line that led the nation in sacks allowed. (If you don't want to take the media's word for it, he was also voted as the Pac-12's best offensive lineman by the league's starting defensive linemen.) As a fifth-year senior, Kalil would have been one of the few remaining links to the Trojans' last championship season in 2008. Even with the rest of the line returning intact, his exit is a major, above-the-fold loss for the offense.

But it comes with an unavoidable followup: Who's going with him? Defensive end Nick Perry hasn't said anything publicly, but he has reportedly signed with an agent after leading the Pac-12 in sacks and turning himself into a likely first-rounder in the process. Junior safety T.J. McDonald is near the top of the board at his position. And of course, there's golden boy quarterback Matt Barkley, whose spectacular November secured his status as the Face of College Football in 2012 ?a hyped star in a major market who combines Tim Tebow's faith and Andrew Luck's pro prospects ? if he can resist the lure of NFL millions.

That's a much tougher proposition when it means coming back to a new protector on his blind side, and as of a few weeks ago, Kalil seemed to think he and his quarterback were a package deal:

The Matts will decide separately, but Kalil anticipates a "chain reaction" that will result in the "double package" either moving on or staying put.

"We either both leave or we both stay," he said recently. "I think that's the way it will play out."

Said Barkley: "I think [Kalil's decision] would be a big factor but not a definite yes or a definite no."

Not long after that, Barkley said he's "still 50-50" on whether to stay or go. If the scales were balanced before, they may have just tipped toward the latter.

Future News: Luis Suarez charged by FA for existing

Future News: Luis Suarez charged by FA for existing

Following a string of controversies, Liverpool's Luis Suarez has been charged with "incredibly improper conduct" by The FA for continuing to exist. The newly invented charge carries the potential of a lifetime ban if Suarez is found guilty of existing.

"Between the diving, the alleged racism against Patrice Evra and the middle finger to Fulham fans, we think it's clear that Luis Suarez is without a doubt the worst human ever," said an FA spokesman. "Plus, he has those teeth and there was that deliberate handball in the World Cup that he was appropriately punished for but still benefited his team. That had nothing to do with us, but it was still annoying. Basically, everything he does is awful."

Suarez was not reached for comment, because he probably would've just said something about how he loves to kick babies.

The Uruguayan striker will be given a chance to defend himself against this charge before The FA, but since appearing at FA headquarters would prove his existence, and thus, his guilt, he may choose not to do that.

Man City fan?s Champions League winners tattoo still wrong

Man City fan?s Champions League winners tattoo still wrong

Back in 2009, a Manchester City fan who was even more excited than most about the club's new owner and overpaid signings that would soon be loaned out to anyone who would take them decided to show just how much he believed in his team by getting a "Manchester City 2011 Champions League winners" tattoo on his arm. And when City failed to even qualify for the Champions League two seasons ago, he actually seemed in fairly good spirits about it.

From The Sun:

The record shop worker, of Great Barr, Birmingham, said: "I've had a fair bit of stick for it already.

"I don't regret it and can see the funny side. I'm getting stick from United fans."

And now, as 2011 nears an end with Man City slinking out of the Champions League group stage and right back into the Europa League, this overly optimistic chap is probably adding a tattoo removal voucher to his Christmas list.

On the bright side, he probably won't be getting much guff from the supporters of fellow Europa League dwellers Man United for a while.

The lesson here: Money can't always buy success, but it can buy a terrible tattoo.

With next season, Bellator makes move to Friday nights

With next season, Bellator makes move to Friday nightsBellator Fighting Championships, the tournament-based promotion, is moving their broadcast from Saturdays to Fridays for their next season, which is expected to start in March. Instead of competing with UFC pay-per-view and Fox events, which normally air on Saturdays, Bellator will now go up against "The Ultimate Fighter," and promotions such as MFC and XFC, which usually air on HDNet, and possibly Showtime airings of Strikeforce: Challengers and M-1 Global bouts.

USA Today spoke to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney about the change:

"We didn't really dig into the analysis and try to assess who was one, who was two and who was three, or what we were trying to avoid the most," he said. "It just kind of came down to an analysis of, is there a night where all the factors made it to where we can maximize live-event attendance, where we can reach the largest audience from an television perspective, to give MMA fans an opportunity to really make a night for themselves with Bellator."

Bellator will move to Spike, the UFC's cable TV home until Saturday, in 2013, but the 2012 season will continue to air on MTV2. The upcoming season will feature fights between welterweight champ Ben Askren and Douglas Lima, Hector Lombard and Alexander Shlemenko's rematch, plus welterweight and bantamweight titles.

The promotion has consistently put on exciting fights, but they were lost upon an MMA audience that would focus on the UFC. Michael Chandler's upset of Eddie Alvarez was one of the year's best fights, but went against UFC 139, and aired not long before Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua's epic bout.

Friday means that Bellator will no longer battle with these events, but it's not a perfect day. Bellator will still face plenty of competition on Fridays, both from other MMA offerings and from other sports.

Will a Friday night air date make Bellator easier for you to watch? Vote in the poll and tell us in the comments or on Facebook.

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Each week the Noise highlights 12 somewhat obscure, unobvious names who he believes are destined to torch the competition. For those playing the Flames home edition, each playermust be started infewer than 60 percent of Yahoo! leagues to qualify. As an accountability advocate, results, whether genius or moronic, will post the following weekusing the revamped scoring system shown here . If you're a member of TEAM HUEVOS, post your Week 13 Flames in the comments.

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-EllisMatt Moore, Mia, RB (Week 13 Noise QB Rank: 14, 7-percent started)
Matchup: vs. Oak
When Moore seized the reins of the 'Fins' starting job back in Week 4, owners were unsure what passer would show up. Would it be the QB that posted an impeccable 8:0 td:int ratio over the final four weeks of 2009? Or perhaps the abomination that lost out to waste of space Jimmy Clausen the following season? Based on his 230.3 yards per game and 7:1 td:int split since Week 9, it appears the more palatable side has resurfaced. Three reasons explain Moore's resurgence: 1) Protection. Sacked 16 times in his first four starts, he's only been forced to the ground seven times since. 2) Aggressiveness. He's taken numerous shots downfield, particularly to Brandon Marshall, indicative in his eye-opening 8.6 yards per attempt in his last four. 3) Offensive balance. Brian Daboll's installation of tosses and sweeps for Reggie Bush has kept defenses honest, opening up opportunities in the pass game. If all the ingredients again come together, Moore should deliver sweet totals this week versus visiting Oakland. Nine signal callers in 11 games have registered at least two touchdowns against the Raiders secondary. Hue Jackson's crew has also allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to QBs on the year. Though Moore has been, as Bush noted recently, "a huge, huge difference-maker," the Miami front office continues to scour the college landscape for its future franchise quarterback (RGIII anyone?). But with five games left to prove his mettle, the once maligned Panther could deliver a string of performances to remember, beginning this week. Stream away.
Fearless Forecast: 20-31, 252 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 0 interceptions, 9 rushing yards, 21.5 fantasy points

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-EllisBenJarvus Green-Ellis, NE, RB (Week 13 Noise RB Rank: 11, 45-percent started)
Matchup: vs. Ind
Nearly disbarred in fantasy's court of judgement a few weeks ago, the LawFirm is finally back doing what he does best: dropping the gavel on would-be tacklers. Earlier this season, a toe injury of unknown severity and a lack of commitment to the run game paralyzed the rusher's numbers. From Weeks 6-10, he averaged a useless 3.4 points per game. But with back-to-back double-digit efforts, Green-Ellis is primed for stellar stretch run. Expect his resurrection to continue this week versus Indy. To call the defeated Colts "awful" would be a massive understatement. Just down the turnpike, the 1-10 Indiana Hoosiers might have a shot against them. Though terrible everywhere, defending the run might be Indy's greatest weakness. Eleven rushers in 11 games have scored at least 10 standard points against it. On the year, the My Little Ponies have yielded 4.3 yards per carry, 176.1 total yards per game and 13 TDs to RBs, equal to the third-most fantasy points allowed. Because Tom Brady will operateuninhibitedly, creating several goal-to-go situations, the bruiser has excellent odds of punching in a touchdown or three. Pick up the phone.
Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-EllisFearless Forecast: 20 carries, 84 rushing yards, 1 reception, 8 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns, 21.9 fantasy points

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-EllisPierre Thomas, NO, RB (Week 13 Noise RB Rank: 19, 23-percent started)
Matchup: vs. Det
In a mad dash of fantasy shopping, the Noise, unapologetically, wouldpepper spray his fellow leaguemates for the PT Bruiser's services. As most are aware, my man-crush runs very, very deep. Without question last year's busted season seriously tested my dedication. But quietly useful over the past several weeks, the adoration for Thomas is as strong as ever. Since Week 9, PT has netted 11.1 points per game in standard formats (even more in PPR leagues), scoring in three of four games, good for the 17th-best RB output during that stretch. Sean Payton's revolving door of running backs remains tough to decipher. The coach, just before Monday's shrinking of the Giants, admitted he had yet to determine how his stable of rushers would be used, a "problem" Chan Gailey could only dream about. Clearly, though, Thomas has earned a bigger piece of the pie, evident in his rising snap count and overall performance. In his past three games, PT, running with vintage vim and vigor, has averaged a redonkulous 7.2 yards per touch. Darren Sproles and Mark Ingram will definitely carve out significant roles, but, this week, against a potentially Suh-less Lions defense, the ex-Illini could inflict measurable damage. Even with The Stomper in uniform, Detroit has surrendered 4.7 yards per carry to RBs this year. No doubt Drew Brees and company will turn to the air early and often, but, considering the Lions' vulnerability up front, a heavier than normal workload could be in store for Thomas. Turn the key.
Fearless Forecast: 11 carries, 67 rushing yards, 4 receptions, 4 receptions, 23 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 18.0 fantasy points

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-EllisEric Decker, Den, WR (Week 13 Noise WR Rank: 28, 22-percent started)
Matchup: at Min
It's true Tim Tebow could stop an avalanche with a fingertip, but the Mile High Messiah is also capable of transforming a middle-of-the-road wideout into a near must-start in competitive formats. Though he's failed to reach 75 yards with Mr. Fourth Quarter under center, The Disciple has become a true consistency king, splashing six in four of his past five games. Equipped with "iron lungs," according to his mentor and workout buddy Larry Fitzgerald, Decker is the consumate max-effort guy. He, like Tebow, simply outworks defenses. This week he may barely break a sweat. The Vikings, sans Antoine Winfield, are positively dreadful versus the pass. Without the corner, they've allowed 8.3 yards per attempt. Overall, they've yielded the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers. Ten WRs have finished in 'Flame' territory against them. Yes, Tebow has only thrown 22 passes twice in six starts ? and he would have a hard time hitting the Jolly Green Giant in the chest on 50-percent of those tosses ? but given the friendly opponent it's certainly conceivable he could turn to the air 25-plus times. If that happens count on Decker attracting 7-9 of those attempts. Become a follower.
Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 51 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 14.1 fantasy points

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-EllisBrent Celek, Phi, TE (Week 13 Noise TE Rank: 9, 20-percent started)
Matchup: at Sea
Higgins would definitely agree the Magnum P.I. of tight ends has a high-ceiling in Week 13. Earlier this season, Celek was forced to stay in the box to protect Michael Vick from a barrage of blitzes. As a result, his numbers suffered greatly. From Weeks 1-5, he failed to record a top-20 week. But since then, he's become an integral part of the Eagles offense. Over his past five contests, he's attracted a healthy 7.7 targets per game reeling in 5.5 receptions for 64.0 yards and two touchdowns. This week he should continue to soar in the Battle of the Birds. Seattle, similar to Chicago, is a club that believes TEs havecooties. Oversized targets have performed 53.3 percent above the league average against the 'Hawks since Week 8. Jason Witten, Ed Dickson and Fred Davis, the last three TEs Seattle has faced, each crossed the chalk. No matter if Vick or Vince Young runs the show Thursday, Celek should finish well inside the position's top-12.
Fearless Forecast: 5 receptions, 67 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 16.4 fantasy points

SHOCKER SPECIAL

Flames: Need a win? Call the law offices of BenJarvus Green-EllisDamian Williams, Ten, WR (Week 13 Noise WR Rank: 25, 9-percent started)
Matchup: at Buf
Citizens of Fantasyland are understandably giddy about Chris Johnson's revival, but the terribly underrated Williams has also created a stir, albeit a much smaller one. Over the past five weeks, the wideout has splashed pay-dirt three times averaging a respectable 3.4 receptions and 50 yards per game. His subsequent 8.4 points per week output during that span checks in at No. 26 among wide receivers. In hot water earlier this season with offensive coordinator Chris Palmer for not playing up to his full potential, the fringe commodity barely registered a blip on most owner radars. But now with the confidence of his OC, head coach and, most importantly, quarterback, the USC product is wielding a sharpened sword. Look for him to plunge it into the heart of Buffalo. Bumbling defensively, the Bills have given up seven scores to WRs in their past four games. Aaron Williams, the Titan's likely shadow, has been particularly generous, conceding 13.5 yards per catch and a 64.7 catch percentage. Because he has only one 70-plus yard performance on his 2011 resume, don't expect banner numbers from Williams. But a profitable day could be in the offing for the emerging WR3.
Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 58 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 14.8 fantasy points

Did UNC ?give up? after Anthony Davis?s game-clinching block?

Before Anthony Davis's surreal swat of John Henson that sealed No. 1 Kentucky's 73-72 victory over No. 5 North Carolina on Saturday morning, there were several candidates to be the signature play of college hoops' best game so far this season.

After Tyler Zeller lost control of the ball in the paint on what would be his team's final possession, Henson found himself with what he thought to be a clean look at a 10-footer to give UNC the lead with seven seconds left. In one motion, Kentucky's 6-foot-10 freshman sensation extended, blocked the shot Inspector Gadget-style and corralled the ball in just 1.5 seconds.

But there was a lingering question after his heroics: Did North Carolina just give up at that point?

A quick recap from the video of what each of the five Tar Heels on the floor did in those final 5.5 seconds ?

? On Henson's way down from the shot attempt, Davis appeared to land on his lower right leg, which sent the Tar Heel forward's momentum backwards, but instead of charging back towards Davis, he started to move back up the floor. In his defense, he was in prime position to take away an outlet pass attempt from Davis to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist if it were to have come.

? Zeller was still in the paint when Davis got the ball, and also began moving up the floor, but wasn't covering anyone. After about two seconds, he made somewhat of an attempt to charge back towards Davis, but it was much too late.

? Reggie Bullock and Harrison Barnes were both away from the ball and, like Zeller, ultimately made a move towards Davis. But, also like Zeller, they waited too long to do so.

[ Related: Five things we learned from Kentucky-North Carolina ]

? Kendall Marshall, as Henson was taking the shot, began reeling back towards mid-court. Just before the trio of Heels made their way to Davis, he flipped a pass to Marquis Teague, who ran out the clock. Marshall's effort may look bad on tape as Teague made his way towards the timeline in the final two seconds but, in reality, the most Marshall could have probably done was salvage about a second on the clock for UNC had he fouled. He was simply too far away from the action to have done much more. Drifting back towards mid-court in the first place was a bit curious, given the situation.

Basically, UNC's general awareness in the situation was puzzling. It's hard to say that a team actually 'quit' after playing as hard as the Tar Heels did for 39:55, but it's possible that Davis's out-of-nowhere block stunned the players on the floor just as much as it did everyone watching from home.

United States duo wins first Omega World Cup in 11 years

United States duo wins first Omega World Cup in 11 years

You know the last time an American team walked away from the Omega World Cup, a team event pitting two United States players against teams from all over the globe, with a trophy? A guy in wraparound Oakleys was one of the hottest golfers on the planet, and Tiger Woods was still accepting these types of invites.

Yes, Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland won the team event in China on Sunday for the first time since David Duval and Tiger were teamed up together in 2000, and did so with some really great play throughout the entire week.

It just seemed to click with the long-hitting Woodland and the accurate Kuchar, who drained some long putts during Sunday's alternate shot to post a five-under 67 to finish at 24-under for the week, two shots clear of a late-charging English team of Ian Poulter and Justin Rose.

It might not be the type of marquee event that gets the regular news outlets buzzing, but it wasn't like Kuchar and Woodland were playing against the B-team of golf. Before the final round, the Irish team of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, the past two U.S. Open winners, were two shots clear of the field, but could only muster an even-par round on Sunday, dropping them well behind the Americans.

It also brings up a simple thought for a similar event in 2012; what about Woodland as a captain's pick at the Ryder Cup? An intimidating figure off the tee, if he could do this well with Kuchar as his teammate, holing big putts and really carrying the team for the first two days, why wouldn't he be able to transition that to a team event where you have to play the same formats that you do at this World Cup?

Kuchar is all but certain a spot next year at Medinah, but it might be worth taking a look at Woodland as a captain's pick if you are Davis Love III.

Presidents Cup Friday four-ball pairings announced

Presidents Cup Friday four-ball pairings announced

The great thing about the Presidents Cup is we get to see everyone play the first two days. Nobody sits before the weekend, so the captains must find the best pairings possible. We watched the Americans take a 4-2 lead after Thursday's foursomes, but how did the captain's pair the Friday four-balls? Look on.

Match No. 1: Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson vs. Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa -- A rematch of Thursday that had the American rookies take Els and Ishikawa 4 and 2, but not for lack of good play. This International duo was 3-under through 16 holes, but just ran into the hottest team at Royal Melbourne.

Match No. 2: Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson vs. Jason Day and Aaron Baddeley -- For the first time since 2007, Tiger will not be playing with Stricker, but that's probably a good thing after that once successful team was handed the worst team loss in the history of the Presidents Cup.

Match No. 3: Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk vs. Adam Scott and K.T. Kim -- The American veterans were great on Thursday, but they'll have to face the force that is Scott, one of only two International players to win their opening match.

Match No. 4: Bill Haas and Nick Watney vs. Geoff Ogilvy and K.J. Choi -- Captain Couples didn't split up many of his winning teams, and while these two didn't necessarily win their match, it must have felt like it after being 2-down with four to play.

Match No. 5: Steve Stricker and Matt Kuchar vs. Y.E. Yang and Robert Allenby -- Not a bad spot for Stricker here, who struggled mightily on Thursday, but Yang and Allenby didn't do much better.

Match No. 6: Hunter Mahan and David Toms vs. Charl Schwartzel and Retief Goosen -- Mahan and Toms is the fourth of six American teams playing together for the second straight day, as they should, after a 6-up win, but they'll have to face Team South Africa, who might be more comfortable together in this spot.

Also, quick scheduling reminder -- due to the forecast, golf will be moved up two hours on Friday, so live golf will start at 5:30 PM ET on The Golf Channel in the States.
