Back in 2009, a Manchester City fan who was even more excited than most about the club's new owner and overpaid signings that would soon be loaned out to anyone who would take them decided to show just how much he believed in his team by getting a "Manchester City 2011 Champions League winners" tattoo on his arm. And when City failed to even qualify for the Champions League two seasons ago, he actually seemed in fairly good spirits about it.
From The Sun:
The record shop worker, of Great Barr, Birmingham, said: "I've had a fair bit of stick for it already.
"I don't regret it and can see the funny side. I'm getting stick from United fans."
And now, as 2011 nears an end with Man City slinking out of the Champions League group stage and right back into the Europa League, this overly optimistic chap is probably adding a tattoo removal voucher to his Christmas list.
On the bright side, he probably won't be getting much guff from the supporters of fellow Europa League dwellers Man United for a while.
The lesson here: Money can't always buy success, but it can buy a terrible tattoo.
