A tough break for the Aaron Brooks owners out there. Initially it was being reported that he'll miss two weeks with an ankle sprain, but today we learned that likely he'll sit for the next 4-6 weeks.Brooks, the 2009-10 league leader in 3-pointers made, has been off to a nice start averaging 16.4 points, 5.4 assists, 0.8 steals. 2.2 threes, 2.2 rebounds, and 92.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line. You're going to miss his production, for sure, but you should be able to find suitable help on the free-agent market.
Looking at Brooks' Houston team, un-drafted rookie Ishmael Smith is starting at the point guard position as of now. Smith is a nice add for some modest numbers. He's averaging eight points, 6.5 assists, two steals, and four rebounds since taking over for Brooks. He's also shooting a woeful 27 percent from the field on 27 attempts. The other problem with Smith is that injured guard Kyle Lowry is expected to return to action this week. He'll likely slot into the starting point guard position by the end of the week. I would much rather have Lowry, once he proves to be healthy. But until then it's worth looking at Smith.
