Wesley Witherspoon Reportedly Suspended for Mocking Coach

Memphis junior Wesley Witherspoon has been suspended indefinitely, according to published reports.

A source told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that Witherspoon mocked an assistant coach on the team bus later suspended. The source indicated that Witherspoon impersonated a coach that was not pleased with the Tigers' recent loss to SMU, even using the bus's loudspeaker to mock the coach.

"He will be suspended until I say further," Memphis coach Josh Pastner told the newspaper. "I absolutely love Wesley. He's a really good young man, and he's got a tremendous amount of talent. But sometimes you do decisions, including discipline, that are best not only for the team but also for the young man."

Pastner gave no time table for Witherspoon's return, but indicated that he would not play Saturday against Marshall. He did not practice with the team Thursday.

Witherspoon, a preseason all conference selection, has seen his productivity dwindle since returning from injury in late December. He's averaged only 9.5 points in his last six games, as opposed to 13 points prior to his injury.

Without Witherspoon, the Tigers will look to senior Will Coleman and freshman Tarik Black to fill the void.

Following a visit from Marshall Saturday, Memphis (12-4, 1-1) will travel to Southern Miss Wednesday.
