Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki will have to wait at least another match before she clinches the year-end No. 1 WTA ranking.Group play continued Wednesday on Day 2 at the WTA Championships in Doha and featured the streaking Wozniacki for the second consecutive day. The 20-year-old Dane came into her match needing only one more round-robin victory or a Vera Zvonareva loss to clinch the year-end No. 1. But she got neither on Wednesday. Wozniacki was upset by Samantha Stosur in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Stosur took command of the match when she earned the contest's first break of serve against Wozniacki in the 10th game of the first set, to claim the set 6-4. Her powerful kick serve was not broken once by Wozniacki as the 26-year-old Australian and French Open runner-up moves to 2-0 in the Maroon Group, while Wozniacki falls to 1-1.
Day 2 also featured the debut of U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters, who is playing in the White Group. Clijsters, a two-time year-end champion, easily defeated a struggling Jelena Jankovic in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. Clijsters moves to 1-0 in group play, while Jankovic, who is reportedly suffering from an illness, falls to 0-2.
