Louisiana Tech running back Lennon Creer might not be among the nation's most recognizable running backs, but he's already done something several other top running backs failed to do -- run on Boise State.
Creer, a junior transfer from Tennessee, rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns against what was the nation's top rush defense and obliterated its average of 59.3 yards per game.
It was a coming-out party for Creer, the former I-back who came into the season unsure if he'd be the right fit for new coach Sonny Dykes' offensive system.
"When coach Dykes first got hired, I didn't know what my role would be or how I would play into the spread offense," Creer said. "When I first sat down with him, he assured me that I could do everything that I wanted to do."
It took a little while for Creer to mesh into an offense that was a little rough around the edges. The Bulldogs struggled to find consistency at quarterback and in the passing game and subsequently, Creer had trouble finding room to run. The offensive indecisiveness made the adjustment to the new coaching staff a little slower and Creer acknowledged that it took awhile for him to believe in the coaches and himself in a spread system.
