Former Wyoming Safety Shamiel Gary Heads to Oklahoma State

Safety Shamiel Gary has traded in one Cowboy uniform for another.

Gary, a former standout at Wyoming, has enrolled at Oklahoma State.

Wyoming announced on Jan. 7 that Gary left the program for personal reasons. Gary, a sophomore, started the first 10 games of last season before missing the final two because of a death in his family. Gary is originally from Tulsa, Okla.

Currently, Gary would have to sit out a year because of NCAA transfer rules, but if the NCAA finds that Gary needed to move because of family hardship, he could obtain a waiver and be eligible to play immediately. Gary does still have a redshirt year remaining, so he could play at Oklahoma State for two seasons regardless of the NCAA's ruling.

In 2009, Gary became the first Wyoming player to win Freshman All-America honors with three interceptions and 98 tackles. In 2010, he had 94 tackles and one interception and was on pace to lead Wyoming in tackles before he missed the final two games.
