2010 was something of a wash for Kasey Kahne, a year in which negotiations ended in a new Hendrick Motorsports deal, and turmoil at Richard Petty Motorsports boiled over and resulted in his early departure. Not only that, his knee was a mess, and he had surgery in November to scope out problems. Yeah, it's safe to say he's happy to see 2010 go.
Kahne will drive the brand-spankin'-new No. 4 Toyota for Red Bull, as you can see there at right. Also as you can see, his knees seem to be doing just fine after the surgery.
On Nov. 23, just two days after Jimmie Johnson outran Denny Hamlin for the 2010 championship, Kahne -- who was, to put it politely, well back in the pack -- underwent arthroscopic surgery to address "plica," folds of skin and muscle, that had built up in his knees.
Sidelined for about six weeks, Kahne used the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays to heal up, and he proclaimed to FOX Sports that the knees are "better now than they did prior to getting them done ... pain for a month, but I'm glad I got it done."
Kahne ran five races for Red Bull, taking the place of the ill Brian Vickers, after his abrupt departure from RPM. He ran unspectacularly for the first four, but closed with a pole position and a sixth-place finish at Homestead, boding well for 2011.
